Transform Your iPhone Notes App into a ChatGPT-Enhanced Memory Resource
A single button tap is all it takes to save a snapshot, summarize it, save the URL, and save it as a visual note.
Saving cherished moments can often feel like a daunting task. URLs clutter our bookmarks or become lost in dedicated apps. And let’s not forget the dozens of screenshots and camera clicks we gather—screen grabs of posters or snappy memes often become disorganized in our Photos app, creating a visual mess. But what if there was a more streamlined way to capture and organize your memories?
The Power of the Action Button
Imagine effortlessly capturing a screenshot, generating a brief summary, tagging it for easy searching, and saving all that information in your preferred app—all with the press of a single button. This capability is a dream for many Apple users. Unfortunately, while the iPhone’s Action Button simplifies many tasks, it doesn’t quite offer this advanced functionality. However, Android devices like the OnePlus 15 do.
Finding Significance in a Digital Chaos
Let me share a little personal insight. I’ve amassed over two thousand screenshots on my iPhone—everything from intriguing articles and memes to crucial work materials and potential travel inspirations. It’s easy to say I’ll get back to these later, but finding them again? That’s a different story altogether.
Take, for example, the time I saved a screenshot of a beautiful photo series highlighting the dance traditions of Shillong, hoping to plan a visit. Days later, when I finally had the time to explore, I was dismayed to find that the original screenshot was buried under heaps of other captures.
The Limits of Built-in Organization
Despite our iPhones’ advanced tech, searching through the Photos app often feels cumbersome. In my case, I grew increasingly frustrated as I scrolled endlessly, unable to locate that one image that held so much potential for my future adventures.
On the OnePlus 15, users experience the joy of Mind Space, a feature that captures and organizes their digital life. With a single button press, it saves a screenshot, analyzes the on-screen content, and creates a comprehensive memory card—all while tagging essential details for easy retrieval. It’s like having a personalized AI system dedicated to preserving your memories.
Creating Your Personal Memory Vault on iPhone
At this point, I was determined to create a similar experience on my iPhone. Thankfully, the Shortcuts app came to my rescue. After a bit of trial and error, I could replicate a similar functionality to the OnePlus 15’s Mind Space feature.
Steps to Create Your Shortcut
- Launch the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
- Draft a sequence of tasks: Screenshot saving, analyzing content, summarizing, tagging, and saving everything to Notes.
- Select the Right AI Model: You can choose between Apple’s Cloud, On-Device AI, or ChatGPT.
- Generate a Natural Language Description for your shortcut requirements.
- Configure Your Action Button to trigger this shortcut effortlessly.
Enhancing the Experience
Once you set up the shortcut, any time I want to save a nugget of wisdom from the web, I simply long-press the action button. In the blink of an eye, the on-screen content, along with a summary and URL, gets securely stored in my Notes app. The beauty? It all happens seamlessly without jumping between apps.
Alternate Options for Action Button
What if you’ve already assigned your Action Button to another function? Not a problem. You can also park your shortcut in the Control Center and trigger it from there. Just remember to allow a slight delay so that you can swiftly switch back to the app you want to capture before the screenshot is taken.
Final Thoughts
Thanks to on-device AI, saving that random but essential information has never been smoother. You can tailor the entire saving process to meet your unique needs, allowing for a more intuitive and organized digital life.
