Figma Enhances Its Design Suite with Acquisition of AI Media Generation Leader Weavy

Design platform Figma has announced its acquisition of Weavy, an innovative company specializing in AI-powered image and video generation. This partnership will lead to the formation of a new brand, Figma Weave.

As part of this exciting development, 20 talented individuals from Weavy will join the Figma team. Although the financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, Weavy was founded in 2024 in Tel Aviv and raised $4 million in a seed funding round led by Entrée Capital, with additional support from Designer Fund, Founder Collective, and Fiverr founder Micha Kaufman.

What This Means for Figma Users

For the time being, Weavy will continue to operate as an independent product. However, plans are already in motion to eventually integrate it within the Figma Weave brand, enriching the overall Figma platform.

Enhancing Creative Capabilities

Weavy’s robust web tools empower users to combine various AI models, providing professional editing tools to craft stunning images and videos. These creations can be utilized in product mock-ups or to elevate brand styling. Users can easily adjust layers, lighting, colors, and angles through simple prompts, ultimately achieving their desired results.

Starting with a basic prompt for image generation, users can explore various results from different AI models. They can select an image, generate videos using further prompts, and apply editing tools to refine their work. This iterative approach allows designers the flexibility to blend multiple prompts and models to reach their desired outputs.

Figma’s CEO, Dylan Field, expressed enthusiasm for Weavy’s innovative approach to AI creation. He remarked, “This node-based method elevates craft and control in AI generation, allowing outputs to be branched, remixed, and refined. The Weavy team has successfully balanced simplicity and power, creating a tool that’s truly enjoyable to use.”

The Growing Demand for AI Design Tools

The landscape of AI-powered design platforms is rapidly evolving, with a significant demand for solutions that streamline media generation and enhance design workflows. Recent activity in this arena includes Perplexity’s acquisition of the team from Visual Electric, a Sequoia-backed design platform, further illustrating the excitement surrounding these technologies.

In April, Krea also made headlines by raising $83 million from various investors, including Bain Capital and a16z. This highlights the continuously growing interest in robust AI-driven solutions within the design industry.

As Figma Weave takes shape, there’s no doubt that we are on the brink of a new era in creative design, one brimming with opportunities and innovation. Are you ready to embrace the future? Let your creative journey unfold with the power of Figma Weave!
